ABOUT THE EVENT

Unity Farm Sanctuary Wild Turkeys.jpg

For this closing event of Compassion Arts Festival 2020, we will take a virtual tour of Unity Farm Sanctuary with humane educator Marla Andrews, where we will meet the sanctuary’s beloved animal ambassadors, to learn about some of their stories and their inspiring journeys to safety.  During the tour, we will also come to better understand the plights of the millions of other farm animals who are not as fortunate to live at a sanctuary, in the goal of deepening kindness, connection, and respect for animals everywhere.

With the traditional Thanksgiving Day in close proximity, for which over 49 million turkeys not at a sanctuary will have lost their lives , and at a time of pandemic when many vegan and vegetarian gatherings for the holiday will not be possible, Compassion Arts offers this zoom event as an alternative Thanks-Giving circle of compassion for animals, where we will spend a little extra time with Unity Sanctuary’s turkey residents to celebrate these incredible beings and to reflect on ways to create peace for all animals .

The tour will be followed with a live Q&A and discussion.

Unity Farm Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) farm animal sanctuary in Sherborn, MA and a forever home to over 250 rescued farm animals.  Founded by Dr. John Halamka and Kathy Halamka, the mission of Unity Farm Sanctuary is to provide a safe and loving lifelong home for farm animals in need, as well as to offer the public unique educational programs, and to promote a culture of kindness and connection.

Residents at the sanctuary include alpaca, horses, ponies, miniature horses, sheep, cows, goats, pigs and a vast array of feathered friends. Unity also works to network with the community and other organizations to help as many farm animals as possible for safe haven and loving homes; as well as offering programs for cultivating empathy and understanding for animals through humane education, sanctuary tours, workshops, creativity retreats, and internship / volunteering opportunities; and  inspiring compassionate living and effective advocacy in a variety of ways to create positive change for animals and people alike.
